What is a Website Content Audit?

A Website Content Audit is a research based, systematic review of the main pages of a company’s website that diagnoses potential problems with the content of the site. The deliverable is a report that thoroughly documents how well the website does against a content performance checklist.

Something about my website just isn’t right…

A lot of business owners already know their website isn’t what it should be, but they don’t really know what specifically is wrong with it. Other business owners may have no idea that anything is wrong with their website at all, but they know that it isn’t doing very much for them.

A website content audit is a research based, systematic review of the main pages of a company’s website that diagnoses potential problems with the content of the site, and documents these issues in a written report.

But more than that, the audit is geared toward finding opportunities for how your website can deliver more of the results you want.

Why do I need this?

The audit is meant to diagnose your website’s content problems by measuring it against best practices. This helps you find the opportunities that will leverage your website to help your business succeed.

You don’t want your visitors to look like this after they see your site…

– When a visitor arrives at your website, you don’t want them to immediately leave because they can’t figure out if you are able to help them.

– Further, if they do stick around, you want to give them the best experience you can while they are on your website.

– The website content audit will make sure you know what to do to avoid visitors to your website being confused or annoyed.

The website content audit will make sure that you know what your website needs to do to keep your visitors happy and engaged.

Remember, they are looking to solve a problem or satisfy an interest, and they landed on your website hoping that you can help them.

Having a website that helps the visitor get closer to what they are trying to accomplish is a big step in building trust and likeability. This can lead to more engagement, sales, and better SEO results for your website.

More importantly, you want to help the visitor find what they are looking for, so that they can learn about whether your company will help them satisfy the interests that brought them to the website in the first place.

The content audit comes with a diagnosis of missed content opportunities of your website, along with a list of detailed recommendations of what specific things you can do to to make your website’s content stronger, and how you can do them.

I Offer Two Types of Content Audits – A Full Content Audit and a Mini Audit

Which Audit is right for me?

The Mini-Content Audit focuses on the home page and what visitors need to see in the first few seconds of arriving at your website. This audit looks at the home page of your website and checks it against my own research-driven checklist of the “7 Immediates.” This is a list of 7 things your website needs to help your visitor know “immediately” when they arrive at your website.

The Full Content Audit uses a 21 point content checklist, which includes the “7 immediates” and also looks at SEO effectiveness, competitor websites, readability, ADA compliance issues, and much more. Rather than look just at the home page, this audit will look at up to 5 pages including the About Us, FAQ, Services, and other relevant pages.
